Shoes That Fit is kicking off our "One Million Shoes by 2012" campaign which happens to coincide with our 20 year anniversary! Because of the generosity of individuals like you, we are continuing to provide new shoes to children in need across the U.S. With so many worthy causes to support, a few of our donors share with us why they choose to give to Shoes That Fit:

"There are few charities where you can see the impact of your gift so quickly and personally. New shoes and clothing go beyond basic needs to self-worth. That is why we support Shoes That Fit."  -Jeff S.

"Our family donates to your program for the simple reason that we know we cannot help everyon but we try to help everyone we can." -Nels C.

"Children deserve the dignity of going to school with their very own shoes. The impact this program makes on their lives is evident in their heartwarming letters of thanks. I'm proud to participate in a program that makes such a difference in children's lives." -Sonya W.

"My wife and I give to Shoes That Fit because it is a local charity that supports basic quality of life for children. The focus on shoes seems apt, as we both enjoy the ability to purchase high quality shoes for ourselves, and we know that shoes, which may seem mundane and silly, are in fact an important part of quality of life. They provide comfort, protection, and - right or wrong - can shape people's perceptions (perceptions of self, how others perceive you.)" -Weston and Elizabeth

Why do you support Shoes That Fit? Leave us your comments here or contact our office. We would love to hear from you!

You know, feet can be pretty to look at, painted toenails, feet massaged with expensive lotions, looking beautiful in a wonderful pair of summer shoes. My feet aren’t that pretty. As the middle kid in a big family, I got hand-me-downs that were either too big or too small for me. Now, my big toes are crooked, and for a long time I didn’t want people to see my feet, so I’d never wear sandals or anything revealing those terrible toes.
Here at Shoes That Fit, we get thank you notes from children helped through our programs, and one of the thank you notes, from a little boy, said “thank you for my new shoes. Now when I run and play, I can move my toes.” I know how that child felt. Can you imagine how it feels to not have the shoes you are wearing right now, and instead have shoes that are painful and too small? Last year  in Los Angeles, Shoes That Fit provided over 31,000 new shoes to children in need. We’d love your help in making sure that more children here get the shoes they need to go to school in comfort and with dignity. Can you help? Call us

April 18-24 is National Volunteer Week—what better time to honor the folks who literally put the shoes on our kids’ feet?

Every non-profit relies upon its community of volunteers but none, I dare say, as much as Shoes That Fit. Last year, Shoes That Fit volunteers delivered more than 100,000 pairs of new shoes and other items to children in need all across the country. We have 5 paid staff all working out of one small office. Almost all of the work of Shoes That Fit is done by volunteers working to help children in need in their own communities.

I am honored to recognize you, the heroes of Shoes That Fit. You are changing the lives of children across the country and in your own backyards. You know that by giving a child a new pair of shoes, you are doing so much more. You are giving them the confidence and comfort to run and play with other kids, to participate in class and to care about others the way they have been cared for. You are an inspiration and we thank you for believing as we do, that every child deserves shoes that fit.

You, too, can join this amazing family of Shoes That Fit volunteers and begin helping children in your own communities. Download, complete and return a Shoes That Fit Participation Agreement from this website and we will send you our Shoes That Fit Start-up Kit that provides you with almost everything you will need to get up and running.

To you, our Shoes That Fit volunteers past, present and future, thank you so much for all that you do.

One of the most inspiring occurrences I've seen here at the offices of Shoes That Fit is when a 10-year old boy decided to help children in need and made a commitment of providing 100 pairs of new shoes for our emergency warehouse. It was awesome to see him come to our offices with his mom to deliver his newest batch of shoes he managed to get at amazing prices. He beamed telling us of negotiating with store owners, and was so happy with each delivery of shoes. I'll never forget him. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so joyful, except maybe for the children he helped.

My shoes are comfortable. They’re mules, faux snakeskin of some sort, and easy to get on and off. I love these shoes. I have another pair that’s similar to these, and of course I have a pair for walking, running, dancing, etc.etc. I bought all these new, I can do that. But here at Shoes That Fit, I’m reminded every day that 1 out of 5 kids here in L.A. live in poverty, and are lucky to have a pair of shoes at all, forget the new thing. I’m told that some of these kids don’t even go to school because of a lack of appropriate shoes and clothing to wear—it’s painful to not fit in. I’m lucky. Are you? Can you buy a pair of shoes for a kid to wear to school? Talk to us.

Remember those warm spring afternoons sitting in front of your home with a
folding table, a few chairs and your friends flagging neighbors down, trying
to interest them in an ice cold glass of fresh squeezed lemonade for only 25
cents?

Now you can relive those fun filled afternoons and help children in need simply by hosting a lemonade stand during Big Sunday weekend May 1-2! Big Sunday is an annual community building event when volunteers of every age and from every walk of life work together throughout California to help others.

This year, Shoes That Fit has been chosen to be one of five charity beneficiaries of the 4th Annual When Life Gives You Lemons Make a Lemonade Stand project. Beginning April 1, you can sign up online by clicking "Project Sign Up" or contact the Big Sunday Lemonade Stand Coordinator Melissa Toy Ozeas.

What could be an easier or more fun way to help a child in need? After all, doesn't every child deserve shoes that fit?
