It’s Sneaker Day – and we’re talking about why we give sneakers, particularly. We love a good pair of sandals or dress shoes, but we give comfortable, supportive athletic shoes. Why?
Because we want kids to be:
- Comfy
- Active
And sneakers fit that bill! They are great for supporting kids’ feet as they run, jump, and play. They’re comfortable for all day wear. They signal to kids (girls in particular) that style doesn’t have to come at the expense of comfort and health.
Many of the kids are amazed by how comfortable their new shoes are compared to their old shoes. And it makes sense. Many of these kids have been wearing hand-me-downs, used shoes from the thrift store, or low-quality shoes. Used shoes can be worn down in the sole with the “cushiness” flattened out of them. Low-quality shoes often do not have comfortable or supportive insoles.
But through your generosity, Shoes That Fit only gives new, good quality sneakers. Here are some of our favorite stories of kids exclaiming about how comfy their new shoes are:
“My favorite moment was when a 5th-grade student tried on his new pair of shoes. He had a HUGE smile on his face, jumped up and down and said, “They are so cushiony!!!” He couldn't get over how much padding was in his shoes because his old shoes had been so worn out and decimated for so long.”
“A 5th-grade female student broke my heart when she got the shoes. She had been wearing boots with heels and it was hard for her to run and participate in PE. When she got her shoes, she said “They’re so soft and I can run!” She wears her shoes every day and stops by my office every morning to show me how well she is taking care of them.”
“A student tried on his shoes and he ran around in a circle. He said they felt like clouds on his feet and that he has never had shoes this nice.”
“These sneakers fit me so right, they are comfortable and beautiful.”
“My favorite memory is the excitement in their faces when they receive their shoes, they are so thrilled. They want to keep the new ones on because they find them so much more comfortable than what they were wearing and they love the style.”
“I gave one of my students a pair of shoes and he said, “These are so comfortable!” He had a huge smile on his face. Then he proceeded to hop down the hall and show every teacher on his way. Teachers throughout the day kept coming to me saying how proud of his shoes he was!”
“This year one of the students put on a pair of shoes and started smiling and jumping around because they were so comfortable.”
“These shoes feel like clouds on my feet. I feel better when I wear them.”
“My feet feel so good and my other ones had a hole in the bottom; my feet are warm now.”
“When one of my 5th graders got his new shoes, he almost cried with joy at how “cushy” they felt. His old sneaks were so tight and worn, that these shoes felt like he was wearing soft clouds. He was ECSTATIC!”
“A first-grade student received his new pair of sneakers and said with a big grin on his face, “it is like walking on clouds.””
“I had a student that was homeless and she needed shoes really bad. When she got them, she told me that she never knew that shoes had so much cushion.”
